The National Veld and Forest Fire Act No. 101 of 1998 was published in Government Gazette 19515 on 27 November 1998.
The Act was amended by the National Forest and Fire Laws Amendment Act No. 12 of 2001 which was published in Government Gazette 22479 on 18 July 2001.
Government notice R34, 1999 in Government Gazette 19899 of 1 April 1999 brought the following into effect:
- sections 1–2 (Introductory provisions)
- sections 14–16 (Firebreaks)
- sections 17–19 (Fire fighting)
- sections 20–23 (Administration)
- sections 24–25 (Offences and penalties)
- sections 26–29 (Enforcement)
- sections 30–38 (General).
Proclamation 78, 1999 in Government Gazette 20258 of 2 July 1999 brought the following into effect:
- sections 12 and 13 (Firebreaks – these sections of Chapter 4 were not brought into effect due to an error).
The Fire Protection Association Regulations were published as Government Notice R665 in Government Gazette 24870 of 16 May 2003.
Government notice R953 in Government Gazette 25137 of 4 July 2003 made corrections to the Fire Protection Association Regulations.
Proclamation 62, 2003 in Government Gazette 25301 of 5 August 2003 brought Chapter 2 (Fire protection associations, sections 3–8) into effect from 1 August 2003.
Regulation notice R953 published in Government Gazette 25137 on 4 July 2003 made corrections to the Fire Protection Regulations.
